About

Made possible with funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Milton Keynes Museum and Milton Keynes City Council, the Bradwell Windmill Project celebrates the heritage and history of Bradwell Windmill as a key heritage and community attraction for Milton Keynes.

The project will see major restoration works to the mill itself, as well as a public programme inviting local residents to build a deeper connection with the heritage of the area, the site, the natural environment and food heritage.

Throughout the project there will be a number of different opportunities for residents to get involved, from events, open mill days, volunteering opportunities, workshops and more.

The Grade II listed Windmill will undergo essential repairs to fix infrastructure and preserve its historic features. The project will also improve how the site’s unique history is shared, making it easier for residents and visitors to learn about its past.

Restoration

The Restoration works include working with expert Millwrights and engineers to repair the sails, doors and cap, renew stoneware, and conservation of early 19th century materials at the Mill.

Green Heritage, Future

Exploring the railway walk, the nature, ecology and wildlife around the mill. Celebrating the seasons and learning about what habitat exists around Bradwell Windmill.

Fit, Food and Farming

Join Milton Keynes Arts Centre in growing a wheat circle on the grounds outside of the windmill, exploring how we can reconnect to the process of field to table, food and the land, folklore and ritual.

Heritage, People and Place

Living Archive invites you to join their free monthly heritage clubs. Help us create an archive of photographs that can be used in future exhibitions and interpretation boards. Help research information for a booklet to share and preserve the history and heritage of the area.

About The National Lottery Heritage Fund
The National Lottery Heritage Fund is the largest funder for the UK’s heritage. Using money raised by National Lottery players, we support projects that connect people and communities to heritage.

Our vision is for heritage to be valued, cared for and sustained for everyone, now and in the future. That’s why as the largest funder for the UK’s heritage we are dedicated to supporting projects that connect people and communities to heritage, as set out in our strategic plan, Heritage 2033. Heritage can be anything from the past that people value and want to pass on to future generations. We believe in the power of heritage to ignite the imagination, offer joy and inspiration, and to build pride in place and connection to the past.
